Annette Morcos

Annette Morcos is one of Calgary’s premier flamenco performers and instructors and is the director of Fineza flamenca Dance School. Over the years Annette has had the privilege of studying with renowned Spanish artists in Spain in the cities of Madrid, Seville and Jerez. Annette has also studied Flamenco singing and her grasp of this song form has been facilitated by her Mediterranean upbringing. Annette has been the recipient of two AFA grants to further her studies.

Annette has been active in the Calgary Flamenco scene since 1998. She was a member of the Flamenco trio “Ocurrencia”, and has performed with Peter Knight, a Calgary recording artist, and his Ensemble during 2002. Annette is the founder of the Flamenco group Salero Caló, a group that has been a regular feature in the Calgary scene since 2003. The group has provided intimate sold-out Flamenco shows at the Beat Niq Jazz Club consistently over the last 4 - 5 years. As a producer Annette presented and performed in the “Spain Meets Canada” Concert featuring artists from Spain and Canada in 2003; the sold out “Ritmos y Sonidos” in March 2005; and "Enucuentros" in 2006 featuring guest artists from Phoenix and San Antonio. In 2007 Annette produced a three-city tour of “Noche Flamenca” in Canmore, Edmonton and Red Deer; as well as “Raíces – A Journey through the Roots of Flamenco”, a project that received a CAD grant and involved over 18 performers. Raices was presented in two sold–out performances that year. Also in 2007, Annette Collaborated with the Calgary Men’s Choir in their production of “Guitarra – a Spanish Christmas Celebration”. In September 2008, she spearheaded a 3-city tour of ‘El Sonido del Silencio’ that featured artists from Seville; producing both the Edmonton and Calgary shows. Her latest production ‘Imagenes’ took place on April 4, 2009. As a soloist Annette has performed in Saskatoon and at the Flamenco Caravan CD release concert in Thunder Bay in April 2007.
